Dabir® Surgical System

Pressure ulcer protection surface for ‘at risk’ patients undergoing lengthy surgical procedures in the Operating Theatre.

Patients undergoing lengthy surgical procedures cannot reposition themselves, exposing them to the cumulative effects of pressure.

Deep tissue pressure damage can present 48-72 hours after a surgical procedure(1). In some instances, Root Cause Analysis has shown that the pressure damage originated in the operating theatre. A meta analysis conducted of surgical procedures for 5,451 patients showed a pooled 15% incidence rate for pressure damage regardless of time or the type of procedure(2).

Supports pressure ulcer protection
Dabir offers an innovative whole body solution to assist in the reduction of pressure ulcer prevention for patients in the perioperative setting.

This innovative Operating Theatre solution has been clinically demonstrated to help mitigate the effects of deep tissue deformation & skin shear to prevent pressure damage.
Enhanced tissue perfusion
The Dabir surface assists in pressure ulcer prevention for patients undergoing long duration surgical procedures, greater than 2 hours, by supporting an increase in blood flow to the skin, reducing tissue deformation, enhancing tissue perfusion and reducing skin shear.
Increases skin blood flow
Lengthy surgeries often expose tissues under vulnerable bony prominences to increased pressure leading to high risk of developing pressure ulcers. Prolonged ischemia may be one of the factors increasing risk.

Alternating pressure (AP) has been shown to assist in offloading tissue & increasing skin blood flow (SBF).
Maintains patient stability
In the perioperative setting, patients can be exposed to the cumulative effects of pressure beginning in pre-op, through the intra-operative phase & into the PACU & ICU. It has been reported that 23% of all HAPUs are acquired intra-operatively during surgeries lasting 3+ hrs (3)

Cardiac surgery patients are particularly at risk due to prolonged periods of time without the ability to reposition.(4,5)
Improved clinical outcomes
The Dabir Surgical System has been shown to improve patient outcomes and has been successfully used in thousands of surgeries including cardiac, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, paediatric, transplants, and many more.

Use of the Dabir Surgical Surface when combined with standard of care reduces interface pressure (IP) under the sacrum by an average 60% during the entire surgery compared to SOC alone.
More effective than standard protocol
This easy to use surgical system represents an innovative solution for pressure ulcer prevention in the Operating Theatre to support improving patient outcomes. The AP support surface was more effective at increasing sacral SBF over time than standard protocols, especially in participants with lower BMI who are at higher risk for developing HAPUs.
