OSKA’s Big Sustainability Win: Carbon Neutral and Green Mark Certified

We have exciting news to share! OSKA is proud to announce that we’ve officially achieved two major sustainability milestones. As of January 2025, we are Green Mark Level 1 certified and have also earned our Carbon Neutral Certificate! These accreditations reflect our ongoing commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, reinforcing our dedication to a greener, more sustainable future.

Sustainability has always been a goal we’ve worked hard towards, and these accreditations mark a significant step forward in our commitment to making a real, measurable difference. By implementing greener practices, reducing our carbon footprint, and ensuring responsible environmental management, we’re doing our part to support a healthier planet.

But this is just the beginning. Achieving these certifications is not just a badge of honour, it’s a promise to continue improving, innovating, and leading the way in sustainability in the healthcare sector. In this blog, we’ll break down what these accreditations mean, how we earned them, and why they matter. Not just to OSKA, but to our customers, partners, the wider care sector, and the world around us.

What is Green Mark?

Green Mark is a sustainability Certification that assesses, audits and certifies our business’s impact on the environment. Helping us to identify steps to save energy and reduce waste across OSKA and establish environmental policies to ensure future decisions are made with sustainability in mind.

How did we achieve Green Mark Level 1?

We achieved our accreditation by working alongside Green Mark on OSKA environmental policies, monitoring use of utilities & waste, reviewing supplier sustainability, training staff around environmental management, and building an action plan to help local wildlife.

We are a carbon neutral business

What is Carbon Neutral?

Being carbon neutral means balancing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted with an equivalent amount removed from the atmosphere or offset through sustainable initiatives.

How are we Carbon Neutral?

OSKA achieved the status of carbon neutral by monitoring our emissions and implementing a comprehensive strategy to reduce emissions where possible. Investment in the Climate Fund Portfolio allow us to minimise our emissions even further to achieve net zero. This portfolio includes the household solar lighting project in Zambia, the Elazig solar farm in Türkiye, a wind farm in Mongolia, and a wind power project in Karnataka, India.

Through investment in these projects, OSKA offset 136.54 Tonnes of CO2e Emissions from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.

Why is it important?

In the UK, businesses account for up to 85% of total GHG emissions – making corporate action the number one priority in helping stop climate change. If individual businesses do not take the initiative to monitor & improve their emissions, the UK will not meet its 2050 Net Zero Commitment.

Carbon emissions in the Care Sector

According to Care England, “the pivotal role of Environmental, Social and Governance factors are now fundamental to all our directions of travel. We know the care sector is a key contributor to emissions generated by their supply chain”.1 OSKA is determined to do its part & actively reduce emissions and work towards a sustainable future.

What next?

OSKA has many exciting ESG projects planned over the next year to further strengthen our sustainability efforts and work towards achieving Green Mark Level 2 accreditation. From expanding our carbon reduction strategies, to implementing new eco-friendly initiatives, we are committed to continuous improvement and long-term environmental responsibility.

But sustainability isn’t just a one-time achievement, it’s an ongoing journey. Even though OSKA is Carbon Neutral & Green Mark Certified, we’ll keep monitoring our impact, exploring new ways to minimise emissions, and collaborating with partners who share our vision for a greener future.

We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, but this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for updates on our progress, and together, let’s build a more sustainable world!

“We are delighted to partner with OSKA Care Ltd to help identify and offset their environmental impact for 2024 and beyond.” James Poynter Director – Carbon Neutral Britain
